Selling 101 - Our Sterling Approach
Call Us - It Costs Nothing to Talk:
When you contact us we’ll visit with you about your circumstances, your goals for selling, your time frame, and of course, what you have to sell. All information is confidential. If it sounds like we may be a good match for your needs, we’ll schedule an appointment to meet you and see what you have.
Our Free On-Site Visit:
After introductions, we will look at the quantity, quality, and “signature” items you have. We will discuss what is involved in conducting an auction for you and whether or not an auction is the right answer. If we don't believe your items will lead to a successful auction, we'll suggest other options available. This visit costs you nothing and does not obligate you to have an auction with us.
Our Firm Written Proposal:
If you have the quantity, quality, and signature items needed to have a successful auction, we take the time to write a firm proposal, complete with marketing plan, timeline, expenses and more.
Once We Have a Contract:
If we mutually agree to work together, we sign a written contract that includes the figures in the proposal. At that point we guarantee the date of the auction. Then, we get to work!
Before We Go Online:
Depending on what you have will dictate how much setup is needed. The location is determined by the seller and the Auctioneer. Some sellers prefer to transfer their goods to our auction shed. In either case, we sort and clean items as necessary, then photograph each lot and write a description. We have a team that can catalog hundreds of lots in just hours! We can provide tables and a 24’ flatbed trailer to put out items if needed.
We schedule a 2-3 hour preview the day before the auction closes. Our staff is on hand to answer questions, help register bidders, and monitor the property. At this time we may set up our cashier trailer for the upcoming pickup day.
The day the auction closes we monitor the auction software and answer any customer questions as needed from our office in Iola. After the last lot closes we email invoices to all winning bidders. We will have a phone conservation with the seller as to how the auction went, as well as prepare invoices and reports for pickup day.
There will be at least one pickup day scheduled for winning bidders to come pickup and pay for their goods. Our staff is on hand to group buyers items, locate items, and moniter the property. Shipping items is available in special circumstances at the expense of the buyers. Before we leave your property, we’ll provide you a preliminary report of the day’s sale. Wisconsin law requires payment within 30 days of the auction. We typically pay you in about 10 days. You will receive a final statement with itemized expenses and your check.
Live Auction Method
The Week of the Auction:
Depending on what you have will dictate how much setup is needed. You as the seller may setup up your own sale with our guidance or have our staff do it for you. Setup is typically your expense and quoted in the original proposal. We can provide tables and a 24’ flatbed trailer to put out items if needed.
Day of the Auction:
Our staff arrives well ahead of the auction putting out directional signs, finishing final setup, and greeting buyers at our mobile office. We register buyers quickly scanning their driver’s license info into our computer system. We check them out equally fast with full computer accounting. During the day we may sell in one or two rings depending on the amount of items you have and the ability to split the crowd. We start on time and move at a brisk pace to hold our buyers. If the sale warrants loading of machinery or very heavy items, we can provide loading services too.
After the Auction:
Before we leave your property, we’ll provide you a preliminary report of the day’s sale. Wisconsin law requires payment within 30 days of the auction. We typically pay you in about 10 days. You will receive a final statement with itemized expenses and your check.
We pride ourselves on providing the best possible auction for you and a fun rewarding experience for our buyers!
